A brazen con artist used her job as a program director at Children and Families of Iowa to steal from a federal jobless aid fund, submitting fake invoices and reimbursement requests that netted her thousands of dollars, authorities say.
Jodi Dyan Spargur-Tate, 55, worked at the nonprofit between 2015 and 2022, submitting false requests that she claimed were for the benefit of the program’s participants. But instead, she and a family member cashed in, according to public court documents.
The scheme was uncovered by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General, which investigated the case with the Des Moines Police Department.
Spargur-Tate pleaded guilty on April 23, 2026, and faces up to 10 years in prison when she is sentenced on August 25, 2026.
