Norman Baynard Sentenced for Felon Firearm Possession in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. – Norman Baynard, Jr., 54, of Norfolk, was sentenced today to 235 months in prison for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Baynard pleaded guilty on May 11 after Norfolk Police conducted undercover heroin purchases from him. The final controlled purchase led to a harrowing high-speed chase during which Baynard drove through red-lights and nearly struck a child. Amidst the chaos, Baynard discarded drugs and a loaded handgun out of his vehicle before pulling over and surrendering.

Baynard’s criminal history includes 43 convictions, spanning drug dealing, voluntary manslaughter, arson, assaults, and multiple firearm-related charges.

Dana J. Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Michael Boxler, Special Agent in Charge of ATF’s Washington Field Division, announced the sentence following the hearing before U.S. District Judge Davis. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Muhr prosecuted the case.
