Convicted drug dealer Timothy L. Adjutant, 28, from North Stratford, has been sentenced to a harsh 21-month federal prison term for selling prescription drugs in the vicinity of a school.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that on November 14, 2018, Adjutant sold buprenorphine, commonly known as Suboxone, to an undercover officer within 1,000 feet of Colebrook Elementary School in New Hampshire.
His criminal activities didn’t end there. Just one month later, on December 4, 2018, he was caught selling more Suboxone from the parking lot of a drug store, again close to the school’s boundaries.
Suboxone is prescribed for opioid withdrawal but can be abused when injected or snorted, leading to a dangerous euphoria similar to other opioids like heroin and fentanyl.
Under federal law, distributing controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school carries a mandatory minimum sentence of one year. Adjutant pleaded guilty on May 6, 2020, before being handed down the sentence by U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray.
Murray emphasized the threat drug trafficking poses to public safety in New Hampshire, stating that they would continue to work with federal and local law enforcement to bring such criminals to justice. The DEA led the investigation, collaborating with multiple agencies including local police departments and the New Hampshire State Police.
