Adam Damian Panetta, Assault Resulting in Substantial Bodily Injury, Massachusetts 2019

New York man Adam Damian Panetta, 45, of Farmingville, N.Y., has been charged with assault and assault resulting in substantial bodily injury following a brutal incident aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line’s Gem.

According to federal prosecutors, the horror unfolded on April 25, 2019. Panetta was caught on surveillance footage dragging a woman by her hair down a hallway before launching an attack that left her unconscious. He is accused of striking her twice in the head and kicking her as she crawled back to consciousness.

When they reached the ship’s medical center, the victim was treated for swelling measuring 8cm on the right side of her head and a laceration requiring five stitches. She was bleeding from the wound that adorned a white towel covering her head.

Today, Panetta appeared in federal court in Boston to face charges that could see him spend up to five years behind bars if convicted.

The U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling and Joseph R. Bonavolonta of the FBI’s Boston Field Division announced the charges against Panetta, who was taken into custody when the ship docked in Boston today.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus is handling the prosecution for Lelling’s Major Crimes Unit. The details contained in the complaint are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
