New York – The Office of Special Investigation (OSI) under Attorney General Letitia James has released a report detailing the investigation into the tragic death of Anthony Troy James, who died following an encounter with members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) on June 4, 2022.

The OSI conducted a thorough probe that included interviews with witnesses and officers involved, as well as reviews of body-worn and security camera footage. The investigation concluded that there was no evidence to suggest that the officers’ actions led to Mr. James’s death, and thus, criminal charges are not warranted.

According to the report, officers responded to erratic behavior exhibited by Mr. James in Harlem, leading to a physical struggle during which he became unconscious. Despite ongoing efforts to provide medical attention, Mr. James was pronounced dead at a local hospital later that morning.
