NYPD Sergeant, Child Exploitation, New York 2023

BROOKLYN, NY – Alberto Randazzo, a former sergeant with the New York City Police Department, will spend the next 28 years of his life behind bars. Randazzo was sentenced today by United States District Judge Pamela K. Chen for conspiring to sexually exploit children and receiving child pornography. The sentence includes eight years of supervised release and mandatory sex offender registration.

The case, a sickening betrayal of public trust, revealed Randazzo lived a depraved double life. While sworn to protect the citizens of New York, he actively preyed on vulnerable children, manipulating women into sexually abusing their own kids so he could witness the acts. According to court filings, Randazzo’s scheme stretched from 2010 through 2013, utilizing online dating platforms like Ashley Madison and Match.com to identify and coerce victims.

“Alberto Randazzo lived a double life, publicly serving as an NYPD police officer while privately engaging in conduct to exploit the most vulnerable members of the community – our children,” declared Acting United States Attorney Bridget M. Rohde. “Together with our law enforcement partners we will continue to strive to protect the most vulnerable among us.” Special Agent-in-Charge Angel M. Melendez of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), added, “Randazzo held a position with the sole purpose to serve and protect the people of this city. Instead, he targeted certain women… His behavior is no less than deplorable.”

The investigation began to unravel in February 2013 when a witness discovered disturbing text messages and emails on Randazzo’s phone, detailing his requests for graphic images and videos of abuse. Confronted, Randazzo chillingly admitted his perverse interest in mothers sexually abusing their children. A subsequent search of his apartment by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau (IAB) uncovered a vast trove of child pornography, including videos Randazzo himself created. He had been a member of the NYPD for 15 years at the time of his arrest.

The scope of Randazzo’s depravity is staggering. At sentencing, prosecutors revealed at least five women complied with his demands, subjecting children ranging in age from infants to eight years old to horrific abuse. He even traveled out of state to personally witness the molestation of two victims, and arranged for one eight-year-old to be drugged to suppress the memory of the assault. Three of the women involved have also faced charges in the Eastern District of New York; two have pleaded guilty, with one receiving a five-year prison sentence, and another awaits sentencing. A third is awaiting trial.

“Alberto Randazzo’s exploitation of innocent children is unconscionable,” stated NYPD Commissioner James P. O’Neill. “I am grateful to our detectives in Internal Affairs, Homeland Security, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office… for their work in bringing Randazzo to justice.” The 28-year sentence serves as a harsh reminder that those who abuse the trust placed in them, particularly when it comes to the safety of children, will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
