Thomas E. Oberhaus, 56, of Napoleon, Ohio, has been charged in federal court with one count of coercion and/or enticement for allegedly attempting to persuade several Asian minors he met online to engage in sexual activity.
The charges against Oberhaus stem from his alleged actions between 2013 and 2016, during which time he is accused of engaging in online interactions with multiple minors, all of Asian descent, in an attempt to coerce or entice them into sexual activity.
According to the criminal information filed against him, Oberhaus’s actions were a clear violation of federal law, and he now faces the possibility of a significant sentence if convicted. The sentence will be determined by the Court after reviewing factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violation.
