Ohio Man Gets 5 Years for Receiving Child Pornography
A 51-year-old man from Athens County, Ohio, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for receiving child pornography, according to a recent court ruling.
Judge Edmund A. Sargus, Jr. handed down the sentence to James R. Harrah, who was charged with receiving child pornography in interstate commerce. Harrah pleaded guilty to the charge on July 21, 2016.
According to court documents, investigators from the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force discovered Harrah’s involvement in the distribution of child pornography through a Gmail account. Further investigation revealed that Harrah had uploaded images and videos of child pornography to various social media platforms, including Twitter and Google, using the username ‘I Luvem Yung’.
A forensic examination of Harrah’s phones revealed over 500 images and 80 videos of child pornography, with at least 14 identified child victims depicted in the recovered files. The incident was reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, who confirmed the existence of the child victims.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin C. Glassman commended the cooperative investigation by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force and Assistant United States Attorney Jessica H. Kim for their efforts in bringing the case to justice.
Harrah was also sentenced to 15 years of supervised release, during which time any cell phone or computer that he owns, uses, or has access to will be monitored and reviewed. The U.S. Attorney emphasized that child pornography is not a victimless crime and that Harrah’s receipt of images of child abuse warranted the sentence he received.
