OCALA, FL – In a shocking turn of events, Nicholas Robert Davis, 30, from Ocala, has pleaded guilty to attempting to transfer obscene material to a minor. The offense carries a severe penalty with Davis facing up to 10 years in federal prison.
Davis’s sinister scheme came to light during an undercover operation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). On July 24, 2024, an HSI agent posing as a 13-year-old girl received a message from Davis on a social media platform. The conversation escalated when Davis engaged in sexually explicit dialogue and exposed himself during a video call.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office detectives joined the investigation, posing as the minor in further interactions with Davis. He sent an explicit video to the undercover detective, solidifying his intent. Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Janette Swartzberg is handling the prosecution of this case.
This incident is a stark reminder of the perils of online predators targeting minors. The U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative has been at the forefront of combating such crimes, identifying and apprehending predators who exploit children.
HSI and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office worked tirelessly to unravel Davis’s web of deceit. Sentencing is scheduled for August 22, 2025. The public is encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious online behavior involving minors to authorities.
