Tucson Man Sentenced for False Bomb Threats

TUCSON, Ariz. – In a disturbing display of reckless behavior, Octavio Acosta De La Torre, 43, of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, was sentenced to 33 months in prison for making false bomb threats to businesses and government offices in Arizona.

According to court documents, between March 21, 2016 and April 1, 2016, De La Torre made approximately 20 false bomb threats to various businesses and government offices in Tucson and in the Phoenix area, including schools and military recruiting stations. These threats resulted in numerous closures and evacuations, causing widespread disruption and fear among the affected communities.

The investigation into De La Torre’s crimes was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tucson Police Department, with the prosecution handled by Beverly K. Anderson and Cory Picton, Assistant U.S. Attorneys for the District of Arizona, Tucson.
