New Orleans, Louisiana – Ignacio Soriano-Ruiz, a 29-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced for illegal re-entry into the United States.
Soriano-Ruiz was encountered during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 in St. Tammany Parish on April 24, 2024, after being previously deported on January 14, 2018.
According to court documents, Soriano-Ruiz re-entered the United States without permission, inspection, or parole by an immigration officer and without the express consent of the United States Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security for readmission to the United States.
Soriano-Ruiz was sentenced by United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown to time served, equaling nearly four months of imprisonment.
United States Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the United States Customs and Border Protection in investigating this matter.
Assistant United States Attorney Jon M. Maestri of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
The charges stem from Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a), which prohibits illegal re-entry of a removed alien.
Soriano-Ruiz’s exact sentence is 4 months of imprisonment, which he will serve immediately.
