Johnny D. Floyd, Sr., 42, of Cincinnati, Ohio, is facing federal charges after being indicted on multiple counts tied to heroin and crack cocaine distribution in Marion County, West Virginia. The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury in Clarksburg, also accuses Floyd of illegally possessing a firearm used to advance his drug operation.
Floyd is charged with one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Base and Heroin,” a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine. He is further charged with “Maintaining Drug Involved Premises,” which could result in up to 20 years behind bars and a $500,000 fine.
The third charge, “Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime,” exposes Floyd to an additional five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Prosecutors allege the firearm in question was a .40-caliber handgun recovered during the investigation into his narcotics activities.
According to authorities, Floyd allegedly operated a drug distribution network out of premises in Marion County, using the location to store, package, and sell heroin and crack cocaine. The charges suggest a pattern of sustained criminal activity that federal and local law enforcement moved aggressively to dismantle.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew R. Cogar, with investigative support from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities stress that while the charges are serious, an indictment is not a conviction—Floyd is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, any eventual sentence would depend on the severity of the proven offenses and Floyd’s prior criminal record, if any. For now, the case stands as the latest federal strike against interstate drug trafficking in rural West Virginia.
