Baltimore, Maryland – In a stunning turn of events, 28-year-old Paul Scovronski from Wintersville, Ohio, pleaded guilty today to armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. The charges stem from two daring bank robberies in Maryland.
According to his plea, on March 11, 2016, Scovronski descended upon the Woodbine branch of a Maryland bank, donning a full disguise and wielding a .22 caliber revolver. He made off with approximately $17,551 before a dramatic chase ensued, resulting in the recovery of more than $8,000 worth of stolen cash.
Scovronski’s getaway vehicle was quickly located by law enforcement, leading to his arrest. The recovered items included Scovronski’s disguise and the weapon used in the robbery. Additionally, he confessed to another bank heist in Clarksburg, Maryland, on February 19, 2016.
Scovronski faces a maximum sentence of 25 years for the armed bank robbery and up to life in prison for brandishing a firearm. His sentencing is scheduled for March 20, 2017.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein praised the investigation efforts by the FBI, Anne Arundel County Police Department, Howard County Police Department, Maryland State Police, and Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron S. J. Zelinsky is prosecuting the case.
