Donald Ray Pyle, Illegal Firearm Transfer, Ohio 2024

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – Donald Ray Pyle, 44, a resident of Bridgeport, Ohio, was handed down a five-month sentence today for his role in the illegal transfer and sale of a firearm across state lines. According to Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen, Pyle stands convicted of delivering a .22 caliber revolver to an individual in Ohio County, West Virginia, on May 23, 2016.

Pyle pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Interstate Transfer of a Firearm’ in February 2017. Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Perri led the prosecution for the government while the Ohio Valley Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducted the investigation.

U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey oversaw the sentencing hearing. The charges against Pyle were serious, and his conviction underscores the federal government’s commitment to enforcing firearm laws strictly. This sentence serves as a stern reminder of the consequences faced by those who engage in illegal firearms transactions across state lines.

Pyle’s conviction comes amidst an ongoing effort by law enforcement agencies to combat gun-related crimes. The HIDTA-funded Ohio Valley Drug & Violent Crime Task Force has been instrumental in this fight, leveraging federal resources to investigate and dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal transfer of weapons.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives has also been actively working to prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands. This case, which resulted in Pyle’s conviction, is a testament to the collaborative efforts between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

As the sentence is carried out, it sends a powerful message that illegal gun transfers will not be tolerated. The community can take comfort in knowing that law enforcement remains vigilant in protecting public safety and upholding the nation’s firearms laws.
