Jonathan Leissler, Wire Fraud, Ohio 2022

⏱ 2 min read

Jonathan Leissler, a 45-year-old Stow resident, swindled his employer out of $3.8 million and a local FOP chapter for campaign donations.

While working as chief financial officer at an industrial supply company in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, Leissler created fake payroll records to add unauthorized extra money to his paychecks between March 2022 and November 2024.

He also used the company’s credit cards to fund his failed Ohio Senate campaign, collecting over $700,000 from online donors before processing refunds when confronted by his employer.

Leissler’s scheme unraveled after he changed the bank account connected to the online fundraising platform, leaving the platform on the hook for refund amounts.

U.S. District Judge Pamela A. Barker sentenced Leissler to 48 months in prison, with three years of supervised release and $4,421,154.54 in restitution.
