Daniel Forster, Filing False Tax Return, Kansas 2023

Daniel Forster, 58, of Olathe, Kansas, pleaded guilty Monday to filing a false tax return, a crime that unraveled a scheme to funnel business funds into his personal life. U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister announced the plea, which exposes how Forster weaponized his role in a corporate structure to defraud the IRS.

Forster was one of three shareholders in an Olathe-based S corporation, where he oversaw financial operations—bookkeeping, record maintenance, and tax reporting. With access to the company’s coffers, he brazenly diverted money to cover personal debts, including credit card payments, then falsely classified those transactions as legitimate business expenses.

The falsified returns submitted to the Internal Revenue Service inflated the company’s deductions, slashing its tax burden while Forster lived off corporate funds. The scheme collapsed under scrutiny, revealing a pattern of financial deception that prosecutors say was both calculated and sustained.

As part of his plea agreement, Forster has agreed to pay more than $450,000 in restitution—a sum reflecting the damage done to federal tax integrity. The restitution order underscores the federal government’s tightening grip on white-collar crimes that bleed businesses and taxpayers alike.

Sentencing is pending, but the consequences loom large: Forster faces up to three years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000. The charges of causing a false tax return to be filed carry weight in courtrooms where deception erodes public trust.

The investigation was led by the Internal Revenue Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Leon Patton prosecuting. U.S. Attorney McAllister praised their relentless work, calling it a reminder that financial crimes, no matter how quietly committed, will be met with federal force.
