Omar Edgar Outten, a 30-year-old Vero Beach resident, has been sentenced to 75 months in prison for methamphetamine trafficking and firearm charges. On March 25, 2013, Indian River County Sheriff’s Office detectives executed a state search warrant at Outten’s home, where they found 132 capsules filled with methylone, a 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun with the butt stock removed, and other evidence of his crimes.
Outten pleaded guilty to three counts: possessing with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Jose E. Martinez on August 5, 2013.
The investigation into Outten’s crimes was a collaborative effort between the ATF and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. According to the criminal complaint, Outten’s home was searched and a number of items were seized, including:
- 132 capsules filled with methylone
- A 12-gauge Mossberg shotgun with the butt stock removed
- A Bersa model Thunder 380, .380 caliber pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition
- 50 rounds of .380 caliber ammunition
- Eight 12-gauge shotgun shells
- Approximately nine grams of marijuana
Outten was also found to be in possession of $1,225.00 at the time of his arrest. He has been sentenced to 75 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer commended the investigative efforts of the ATF and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, saying that their work was crucial in bringing Outten to justice.
