Malik Hosea Atkinson, Online Solicitation of a Minor to Commit a Sexual Act, Florida 2023

Opa-locka Man Gets 30 Years for Soliciting Teens

MIAMI – In a harsh verdict, Malik Hosea Atkinson, a 25-year-old Opa-locka man, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for soliciting two 15-year-old girls online. Atkinson, also known as “@jpmon8,” “@Mall9488673” and “unknown_value#5861,” pleaded guilty to two counts of online solicitation of a minor to commit a sexual act.

According to court documents, Atkinson met the two victims online in a social networking application in 2022 and 2023. He convinced them to meet in person, driving from Miami-Dade County to Palm Beach County to have sex with the first victim multiple times in his white van. For the second victim, he drove to Broward County. A thorough investigation revealed that Atkinson had video recorded himself sexually exploiting the victims and possessed other child sexual abuse material.

The investigation also uncovered that Atkinson had communicated similarly online with other minor females. U.S. District Judge Robyn L. Rosenberg described Atkinson’s crimes as “so severe, so egregious.”

U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida and Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey B. Veltri of the FBI, Miami Field Office, announced the guilty plea. The FBI Miami and West Palm Beach Resident Agency investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Schiller prosecuting it. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara Klco handled forfeiture.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
