Grimy Times Exclusives: Cocaine Kingpin Busted in Orange County
In a major blow to the local cocaine trade, a 43-year-old man from Orange County, New York, has pleaded guilty to possessing and intending to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine.
Acting United States Attorney Antoinette T. Bacon and Ray Donovan, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA, announced that Peter Mami admitted to possessing with the intent to distribute approximately two kilograms of cocaine on March 2, 2020, in a guilty plea.
According to court documents, Mami faces a minimum of 5 years and up to 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $5 million, and a term of supervised release of at least 4 years and up to life, when Chief United States District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby sentences him on January 6, 2022.
The case was investigated by the DEA, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ashlyn Miranda and Joshua R. Rosenthal leading the prosecution.
Mami’s guilty plea is a significant victory for law enforcement in Orange County and highlights the ongoing efforts to combat cocaine trafficking in the area.
