PORTLAND, Ore. — In a chilling series of events, Sean Case McGinley, 40, from Newberg, Oregon, faces federal charges for orchestrating a hoax bomb threat against multiple schools and a hospital in the state.
McGinley is accused of making four counts of interstate threats involving explosives and four counts of conveying false information and hoaxes about destructive devices.
According to court documents, on October 26, 2021, McGinley initiated a string of calls to the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, falsely claiming pipe bombs had been planted. His phone number was traced back to St. Louis, Missouri, where he once lived.
The spree intensified on November 9, with threats against a judge’s vehicle and a bomb scare at Newberg High School. On November 12, McGinley also made false claims of a pedophilia ring at Sherwood High School.
Between November 18 and 23, McGinley escalated his threats to at least eight different institutions, including schools and medical centers, causing widespread panic and evacuations.
Arrested on November 24 in St. Louis, McGinley appeared before a federal court the following day and was ordered detained pending transfer to Oregon. The investigation continues under the diligent work of the FBI and local law enforcement agencies.
