ORLANDO, FL – In a stunning verdict, Patrick Hugh Mitchell, a 56-year-old resident of Orlando, has been found guilty by a federal jury of possession with the intent to distribute and distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
Mitchell now faces a minimum mandatory penalty of ten years up to life in federal prison, with his sentencing hearing set for September 25, 2024. The sentence carries a weight that underscores the gravity of his crime.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) played a pivotal role in Mitchell’s conviction. Utilizing a confidential source, they conducted controlled purchases from Mitchell to pinpoint his drug sources. During one transaction alone, Mitchell supplied 892.5 grams of methamphetamine, a staggering amount that highlights the scale of his operation.
Mitchell was caught distributing the drugs in the parking lot of a gas station where he was detailing cars and selling food. His bragging about the high quality of the methamphetamine only fueled the DEA’s resolve to bring him to justice. A forensic chemist confirmed that the seized substance was 100% pure methamphetamine, further solidifying the case against Mitchell.
This case was a result of a collaborative effort by the DEA and Assistant United States Attorneys Megan Testerman and Michael Sartoian, who have tirelessly pursued drug traffickers across Florida.
