ORLANDO, FL – Benjamin Garmon Jr., a 25-year-old Orlando resident, entered a guilty plea today to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that Garmon faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.
Court documents reveal that on January 20, 2024, during a homicide investigation, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a Glock pistol, loaded with ammunition, hidden in a shoebox within Garmon’s bedroom closet. The firearm was found after law enforcement executed a search warrant at his home on Gadwall Lane.
Garmon, who had previously been convicted of four felonies, including carrying a concealed weapon and burglary, is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal laws. His actions in moving the firearm when police arrived are what led to today’s charges.
The investigation into this case was spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, alongside the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kara Wick is prosecuting the case.
This incident falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across communities. The Department of Justice launched a strategic initiative on May 26, 2021, to enhance PSN efforts based on fostering community trust and setting enforcement priorities.
Garmon’s sentencing date is pending, marking another significant victory for law enforcement in the fight against illegal firearms.
