New Britain Man Admits Recording His Sexual Abuse of a Child

A disturbing case of child exploitation has surfaced in Connecticut, with Orlando Guzman, a 73-year-old resident of New Britain, pleading guilty to child exploitation offenses.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Guzman was an active member of two private groups on an internet chat application, where individuals shared images and videos of child sexual abuse. The investigation, led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), revealed that Guzman sexually abused a minor female and used mobile devices to record and store images and videos of the abuse.

Between February and August 2022, Guzman committed the heinous crimes, which were discovered during a court-authorized search of his mobile devices on September 2, 2022. Analysis of the devices revealed more than 4,000 video files and more than 7,000 image files of child pornography, including images and videos depicting Guzman’s abuse of the minor victim.

Guzman has been detained since his arrest on September 7, 2022. He pleaded guilty to production of child pornography, an offense that carries a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 15 years and a maximum term of imprisonment of 30 years, and possession of child pornography, an offense that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.

This case is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, aimed at protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation. The investigation was assisted by the New Britain Police Department, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel E. Cummings.
