Tyler Ryan Cuff, Dealing in Firearms Without a License, Washington 2015

Spokane – In a shocking case of firearms smuggling, Tyler Ryan Cuff, 32, of Oroville, Washington, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for dealing in firearms without a license.

According to court documents, Cuff spent several years purchasing firearms at gun shows in Washington, smuggling them into Canada, and selling them for profit. The illegal sale of firearms poses a significant danger to citizens in both the United States and Canada.

The investigation, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), revealed that Cuff sold several firearms that were later found at crime scenes in Canada. The case was prosecuted by Rudy J. Verschoor, an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington.

Senior United States District Court Judge Wm. Fremming Nielsen handed down the sentence, which will be followed by three years of court supervision after Cuff’s release from federal prison. Cuff’s sentence will run concurrently with a sentence he received in Canada for smuggling an AK-47 into that country.

Cuff’s guilty plea was entered on October 28, 2015, to one count of Dealing in Firearms Without a License. U.S. Attorney Michael C. Ormsby praised the ATF for its thorough investigation and vowed to aggressively prosecute firearms violations in the Eastern District of Washington.

The case highlights the importance of regulating the sale of firearms and the need for vigilance in preventing the smuggling of guns across international borders.

Cuff’s actions not only put lives at risk but also undermined the law and compromised public safety. His sentence serves as a warning to others who engage in similar illicit activities.
