Methamphetamine Ring Busted in Southern Iowa: Council Bluffs Resident Sentenced to 135 Months

Oscar Arriaga Martinez, a 25-year-old citizen of Mexico and resident of Council Bluffs, Iowa, has been handed a harsh sentence for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy that shook the Southern District of Iowa and the District of Nebraska.

On June 12, 2015, United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose sentenced Martinez to 135 months in prison, a punishment that will undoubtedly serve as a deterrent to those involved in the illicit drug trade.

As part of the sentence, Martinez will also serve five years of supervised release following his imprisonment and pay $100 towards the Crime Victim Fund. His guilty plea to the conspiracy charge marked a significant milestone in the investigation, which was led by the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The probe, which began in February 2014 and concluded in September 2014, revealed that Martinez conspired with others to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine in the Southern District of Iowa.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case, bringing Martinez to justice for his role in the methamphetamine conspiracy.
