Oscar Garfio-Zapien, 29, Sentenced to 12 Years for Methamphetamine and Firearm Possession

A 29-year-old man from Mexico was sentenced to over 12 years in prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation in Lincoln, NE. Oscar Garfio-Zapien was found guilty of possessing more than 14 pounds of methamphetamine and a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

On November 5, 2020, Garfio-Zapien was stopped by a Nebraska State Patrolman for speeding along Interstate 80 in Hamilton County. During a search of his rental vehicle, the trooper discovered a suitcase containing 13 packages of methamphetamine, a loaded Springfield XD 9 mm handgun in the center console, and a backpack with eight packages of methamphetamine weighing approximately 1.5 pounds, a loaded Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver, and 33 rounds of .380 ammunition.

Garfio-Zapien will be required to serve 5 years of supervision upon his release. There is no parole in the federal system. This case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol and the Central Nebraska Drug and Safe Streets Task Force.
