HARRISBURG – In a chilling revelation, former Assistant Director of Central Pennsylvania Youth Ministries, Daniel Reed, has been charged with attempted production, production, and possession of child pornography. The allegations have sparked an intense investigation into the youth organization.
According to Acting United States Attorney John Gurganus, Reed is accused of having engaged in a sexual relationship with a young female volunteer when she was between 14 and 17 years old. Gurganus further stated that a disturbing discovery was made at the Youth Ministries: a ‘peep hole’ and two-way mirror hidden in a second-floor hallway closet, overlooking a bathroom.
Upon executing a search warrant at Reed’s residence, authorities uncovered an electronic device containing searches for hidden cameras and a text message to a group of minors. On a seized hard drive, law enforcement found nude images of minor females, believed to have been taken by a hidden camera in the organization’s facility.
The FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office is actively seeking potential victims related to this case. Anyone with information or wishing to report a crime is urged to contact the FBI at (215) 418-4000.
Investigation of the charges against Reed has been led by the Pennsylvania State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney K. Wesley Mishoe handling the prosecution. The maximum penalty for these offenses upon conviction stands at 70 years’ imprisonment.
Criminal complaints are merely allegations; all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
