Pablo Rosales-Aquino, Unlawful Use of Identification Documents, Iowa 2018

Waterloo, Iowa – In a shocking case of identity theft, a Mexican man has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for using false identification documents to obtain a job in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Pablo Rosales-Aquino, 37, a citizen of Mexico illegally present in the United States and residing in Waterloo, Iowa, received the prison term after pleading guilty to one count of unlawful use of identification documents and one count of illegal reentry into the United States.

Rosales-Aquino admitted to having previously been deported from the United States on April 15, 2009, and that he illegally reentered the United States without the permission of the United States government. He was also given voluntary returns to Mexico seven times between March 1998 and January 2000.

On December 5, 2017, Rosales-Aquino used a fraudulent social security card and a fraudulent Green card when completing employment forms to obtain a job in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The social security account number on the card used by Rosales-Aquino belonged to a United States citizen. The account number on the Green card belonged to another person.

Rosales-Aquino has prior convictions for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in Allamakee County in 2004, in Clayton County in 2005, and in Black Hawk County in 2007. He was also arrested in Black Hawk County for driving without a license on February 1, 2018, and was arrested by immigration agents at his place of employment in Cedar Falls on March 2, 2018.

Rosales-Aquino was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge Linda R. Reade. He must also serve a 3-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. Rosales-Aquino is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel C. Tvedt and investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations.

Rosales-Aquino’s case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of using false identification documents and reentering the United States without permission.
