Defendant Sentenced to 46 Months in Federal Prison
A 22-year-old Waterloo man has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition.
Paris Clevont’e Lyes, 22, of Waterloo, Iowa, received the prison term after a guilty plea to possessing firearms and ammunition as an illegal drug user.
Lyes admitted to possessing a Glock 9mm pistol, a Mossberg .22 caliber pistol, a Romarm Model Mini Draco 7.62x39mm pistol, and more than 800 rounds of ammunition.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Emily K. Nydle and was investigated by a Federal Task Force composed of the Waterloo Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, assisted by the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office and Cedar Falls Police Department.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that aims to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer.
Lyes is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
As part of his sentence, Lyes must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Lyes was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge Linda R. Reade. He was also fined $5,000 and must pay a special assessment of $100.
