Jose Padilla, Terror Support, Florida 2007

Grimy Times has confirmed that Jose Padilla, a man with a long history of alleged terrorism ties, has been re-sentenced to 21 years in prison for his 2007 conviction of conspiracy to murder, kidnap and maim individuals in a foreign country. He was also convicted of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and providing material support to terrorists.

Padilla’s re-sentencing comes after the U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals remanded the case, upholding his convictions but vacating the original sentence of 17 and-a-half years as too lenient. According to the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, Padilla faced a sentence of 360 months to life in prison.

U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer commended the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations section. “We are committed to bringing those who wish to harm our nation to justice,” Ferrer said in a statement.

The re-sentencing of this case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brian Frazier and Ricardo Del Toro of the Southern District of Florida and Department of Justice National Security Division Trial Attorney Bridget Behling. “We are pleased with the outcome of this case and grateful for the hard work of our law enforcement partners,” Frazier added.

Padilla’s conviction and re-sentencing serve as a reminder of the ongoing threat of terrorism and the importance of vigilance in protecting our nation’s security. Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this case as more information becomes available.

As Padilla begins his 21-year sentence, the question remains: what other secrets has he taken to his grave? The re-sentencing of Padilla is a significant victory for law enforcement and the U.S. government, but it also serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges of bringing terrorists to justice.

John P. Carlin, Assistant Attorney General for National Security, praised the efforts of law enforcement in bringing Padilla to justice. “This sends a clear message that those who engage in terrorism will be held accountable for their actions,” Carlin said in a statement.

Grimy Times will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, the people of the United States can rest a little easier knowing that one alleged terrorist is off the streets for the next two decades.
