Demario Terrell Daniels, Armed Career Crime, Kentucky 2024

Paducah, KY – The gritty streets of Paducah have been left a bit safer as Demario Terrell Daniels, 33, was sentenced yesterday to 15 years in federal prison for being an armed career criminal and possessing a firearm.

According to court documents, Daniels had previously been convicted of the federal felony offense of cocaine base distribution and fleeing/evading police. The man, who escaped from the McCracken County Regional Jail, was found with a pistol upon his arrest for other charges. The firearm was discovered by jail staff.

Daniels’ sentence is the result of the Armed Career Criminal Act, which imposes enhanced penalties on individuals like him who have been convicted of at least three violent felonies or serious drug offenses. A defendant qualifying as an armed career criminal faces a minimum term of imprisonment of 15 years and a maximum term of life.

U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky praised the combined efforts of ATF Paducah, state and local law enforcement partners, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth Hancock for removing Daniels from the streets. ‘Drug dealers with guns are criminals who pose an increased threat to the safety of our communities,’ said ATF Acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Maynard.

This case was investigated by the ATF Paducah Satellite Office, with assistance from the McCracken County Regional Jail, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kentucky State Police.

Demario Daniels’ sentence is a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to keep our communities safe from armed career criminals.
