OKLAHOMA CITY – The grimy truth surfaces as COLIN ANDREW DAVIS, 33, a paramedic from Oklahoma City, pleads guilty to tampering with fentanyl and ketamine vials while on the job.
Davis’ despicable act came to light when the U.S. Attorney’s Office charged him with altering labeling and containers for consumer products in Weatherford, Oklahoma, back in November 2017. The evidence shows that Davis swapped potent medications with a saline solution, potentially putting patients at risk of death or bodily harm.
“When Davis stole these drugs, he made them unavailable for critical emergency treatment and placed patient care in jeopardy,” said First Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester. “This case underscores the damaging effects of opioid abuse within our community.”
According to Special Agent-in-Charge Charles L. Grinstead of the FDA Office of Criminal Investigations, patients who require opioids for severe pain must trust their healthcare providers. The agency is committed to working with law enforcement to protect public health and ensure justice for those who tamper with medications.
Davis faces a maximum penalty of ten years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and three years of supervised release at sentencing, which is expected within ninety days.
