Newark, N.J. – A 21-year-old man from Middlesex County faces serious charges after he was caught sending obscene material to a minor, authorities said.
Mahir Chaudhry of Piscataway is accused of transferring at least six obscene images to a victim under the age of 16 between March and May 2023. The allegations came to light on August 27, 2025, when Chaudhry was arrested.
The arrest was a result of a joint effort by federal agents and local law enforcement, who have been working to protect New Jersey’s children from predators like Chaudhry.
Chaudhry appeared in court on August 28, where he was detained pending bail approval. The charge against him carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
“The defendant’s arrest is a stark reminder that we will not tolerate those who prey on our children,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba. “The FBI and our partners are relentless in their pursuit of these criminals.”
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The investigation leading to the charges was handled by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Operational Unit.
