A Huntington man who helped orchestrate a multistate marijuana ring has been sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison.

Parker Wyatt Mays, 27, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute marijuana after admitting to participating in the multistate operation from 2014 to 2016.

Mays and his co-conspirators, including Corey Bruce Toney and Roy Bills, brought in massive quantities of marijuana from California and distributed it to customers in the Huntington area.

According to authorities, the group brought in up to 400 kilograms of marijuana during the conspiracy, with Mays admitting to pooling the proceeds to acquire more marijuana.

Toney and Bills were also charged in connection with the conspiracy, with Toney facing charges of distributing heroin and crack cocaine.

The investigation into the marijuana ring was a long-term effort led by the DEA, with assistance from local law enforcement agencies, including the West Virginia State Police and the Huntington Police Department.

In addition to Mays, seven other defendants have been convicted in connection with the conspiracy, with several awaiting sentencing.

Mays’ sentence was handed down by Chief United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers, who is presiding over the cases.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia has made it a priority to combat the illicit sale and misuse of illegal drugs in the region.

Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams is leading the prosecutions in connection with the marijuana ring.
