Defendant Sentenced in Fentanyl Conspiracy
Taft Burtton, a 52-year-old man from Omaha, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for his involvement in a fentanyl conspiracy. According to court records, Burtton’s crimes were uncovered by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Overdose Task Force during a search warrant at a residence known for selling fentanyl in Omaha.
On February 15, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the residence and, through undercover operations, were able to entice Burtton to come to the location. Upon arrival, Burtton was found to be in possession of 99 grams of fentanyl. He was subsequently arrested.
The investigation into Burtton’s activities revealed that he was the source of the fentanyl being sold at the residence. As a result, he was charged with conspiracy to distribute 10 grams or more of fentanyl.
On January 3, 2025, Burtton appeared in federal court in Omaha, where he was sentenced to 120 months in prison. Following his release from prison, he will be required to serve a 5-year term of supervised release. It’s worth noting that there is no parole in the federal system.
The case against Burtton was primarily investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced the sentencing, which marks a significant victory in the ongoing fight against fentanyl trafficking in the Omaha area.
The severity of Burtton’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of fentanyl and the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
