Mohammad H. Mohammad, Tax Evasion, Ohio 2024

Parma resident Mohammad H. Mohammad, 56, has been sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty to filing false tax returns, dodging hundreds of thousands in federal income taxes through a years-long scheme tied to his Cleveland grocery business.

Court records reveal Mohammad deliberately understated his income and failed to report gross receipts from Muhammad Brothers Partners, a business he co-owned with his brother, for tax years 2012 and 2013. The total unreported income: $498,189.00—nearly half a million dollars in concealed earnings.

The partnership operated Holyland Supermarket in Cleveland, a grocer that generated significant revenue, much of which never made it onto tax filings. Prosecutors say the omissions were intentional and calculated, part of a broader effort to mislead the IRS and reduce tax liability.

U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman announced the outcome today, confirming Mohammad must pay $489,189.00 in restitution to the IRS and a separate $100,000.00 criminal fine. The combined $589,189.00 penalty underscores the severity of the offense, even without prison time.

The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigations, which traced financial flows and documented discrepancies in business reporting. Authorities zeroed in on falsified records and undeclared cash receipts that painted a clear picture of tax fraud.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan R. Miller handled the prosecution. The sentence, handed down in federal court, serves as a warning to business owners who believe off-the-books income stays hidden. Mohammad H. Mohammad, of Parma, now carries a conviction that won’t disappear with a receipt or ledger entry.
