Parris Deshaunte Evitt, Cyberstalking, Oklahoma 2020

Tulsa Man Sentenced for Cyberstalking Violations

A 30-year-old Tulsa man has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for cyberstalking a former intimate partner in violation of a protective order.

Parris Deshaunte Evitt pleaded guilty before Chief U.S. District Judge John E. Dowdell on November 4, 2020, and admitted to sending harassing and intimidating messages from various accounts to the victim.

The victim suffered years of abuse at the hands of Evitt, with five different convictions between 2012 and 2019 for physically abusing her, including strangulation, assault, and interfering with reporting. Despite being on state supervision at the time of the current offenses, Evitt resorted to cyberstalking to continue tormenting the victim.

U.S. Attorney Trent Shores stated, ‘When a court order frustrated Parris Evitt’s ability to domestically abuse his partner, he resorted to cyberstalking in an effort to continue the torment and terror.’ The victim appeared via Zoom to make a personal statement, sharing the impact of Evitt’s cyberstalking on her life and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to heal and move forward.

Evitt was also ordered to pay restitution for hotel costs incurred by the victim after she was forced to flee her home. The FBI conducted the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Chantelle Dial prosecuted the case. Evitt will serve 46 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release following his imprisonment.

This case serves as a reminder that domestic abusers like Evitt will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The scars of physical abuse and emotional pain can last a lifetime, but with the help of courageous victims and law enforcement, justice can be served.
