Patricia Lamar Brewer, 48, of Simpson County, Kentucky, admitted to threatening to kill bank employees, customers, and an alleged child during a $43,100 robbery of Citizens First Bank in Franklin, Kentucky, on July 30, 2012. The holdup, carried out at gunpoint with a handwritten death threat, sent shockwaves through the small town.
Brewer entered a guilty plea Monday, January 30, 2017, in U.S. District Court before Judge Greg N. Stivers. She admitted to wearing a disguise—eyeglasses, a hat, and a wig—and passing a chilling note to a teller that read: “Don’t call cops or set off any alarms be calm we are watching you we have this ladys child if she don’t do what we say she will die and her daughter and everyone in this bank.” The note demanded $80,000, though Brewer fled with $43,100 in unmarked bills.
The robbery was not her first. Authorities linked Brewer to a previous heist at a bank in Panama City Beach, Florida, where she used an identical disguise and nearly the same threatening language. Evidence from that crime scene, including surveillance footage and forensic analysis, helped the FBI build the case that led to her Kentucky arrest.
Brewer has been in federal custody since her apprehension and remains locked up ahead of sentencing scheduled for May 2, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. CST in Bowling Green, Kentucky, before District Judge Stivers. Prosecutors emphasize the terror inflicted during the robbery, noting the panicked employees believed lives hung in the balance.
Though she pleaded guilty, the original charge carried a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a three-year term of supervised release. The plea deal may reduce her sentence, but federal prosecutors are pushing for the full weight of the law given the threats and psychological violence inflicted.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Weiser and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), underscoring the federal reach in violent financial crimes. With a history of repeat offenses and a pattern of terrorizing bank staff, Brewer’s case is a grim reminder of the human toll behind bank robbery headlines.
