A federal indictment has been handed down against a Mission, South Dakota, man on charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.
Patrick Leonard Iron Cloud, Jr., 40, was indicted on November 10, 2020, for allegedly possessing a firearm despite being an unlawful user of and addicted to a controlled substance, as well as having previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.
According to the indictment, Iron Cloud knowingly possessed a firearm on October 2, 2020, in Mission.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 10 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Iron Cloud appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on January 29, 2021, and pled not guilty to the indictment.
The investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Elmore is prosecuting the case.
Iron Cloud was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
