Boston Man Admits to Child Pornography Crimes

A Peabody man, Patrick Lynch, 24, pleaded guilty to receipt and possession of child pornography in a federal court in Boston, Massachusetts. The charges carry a mandatory minimum term of five years and no greater than 20 years in prison, along with a fine of $250,000 and up to a lifetime of supervised release.

Lynch admitted to receiving emails containing images and videos of children as young as one year old being sexually exploited. He also admitted to viewing images of child pornography on a website and on his laptop at a Boy Scout camp in New Mexico.

During the execution of a search warrant at his residence on December 12, 2014, Lynch deleted the application and cleared his phone’s Internet history. However, a further investigation revealed that he had been employed at the Greater Beverly YMCA and had recently begun employment with Beanstalk Adventure Ropes Course in Reading, Mass.

Lynch’s crimes are part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of the U.S. Attorney’s Major Crimes Unit.

U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns scheduled sentencing for September 14, 2016. Lynch’s employment history and online activities raise serious concerns about his suitability to work with children.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting children from exploitation and abuse. We will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
