Texarkana Men Sentenced for Methamphetamine Trafficking

Texarkana, Arkansas – In a major blow to the region’s narcotics trade, two Texarkana men have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

According to court records, investigators in Hempstead County worked with the South Central Drug Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Department to coordinate controlled drug purchases from Patrick Taylor, 32, and Bruce Witherspoon, 34, between March and July 2017.

The investigation yielded a significant haul of narcotics, with Taylor found to be in possession of 47 grams of methamphetamine and Witherspoon found to be in possession of 10 grams.

Both men were indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2018 and subsequently pleaded guilty to one count of Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute.

Taylor was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release, while Witherspoon was sentenced to 92 months in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release.

The Honorable Chief Judge Susan O. Hickey presided over the sentencing hearings in the United States District Court in Texarkana. Assistant United States Attorney Denis Dean prosecuted the case for the United States.

The convictions and sentences serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in narcotics trafficking and the efforts of law enforcement to disrupt and dismantle these operations in our community.
