Patrick Wayne Platero, Sexual Abuse, New Mexico 2024

A Nageezi man pleaded guilty to federal sexual abuse charges after he engaged in non-consensual sexual acts with the victim.

Patrick Wayne Platero, 47, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, faced federal sexual abuse charges.

According to court records, between January 1, 2024, and April 30, 2024, Platero engaged in a sexual act with Jane Doe without her consent.

At sentencing, Platero faces up to life in prison followed by not less than five years and up to life of supervised release.

Acting U.S. Attorney Holland S. Kastrin and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today.

The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Navajo Nation Department of Investigation and Department of Criminal Investigations.

Assistant United States Attorney Meg Tomlinson is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.

Platero is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date.
