Paul Armenta-Bojorquez, Possession of Child Pornography, Louisiana 2018

LAFAYETTE, La. – In a shocking case of child exploitation, a 34-year-old Mexican national has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for possessing child pornography.

Paul Armenta-Bojorquez, who resided in Abbeville, Louisiana, was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison for one count of possession of child pornography, according to a recent press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana.

Armenta-Bojorquez, a resident of Sinaloa, Mexico, was arrested on November 13, 2017, after law enforcement agents interviewed him regarding the possession of child pornography on his phone and online account.

During the investigation, agents discovered that Armenta-Bojorquez had received child pornography through his phone and then transferred it onto an online account. The material found on the online account contained child pornography, including images of children younger than 12.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood combines federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Armenta-Bojorquez’s sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. on [no specific date mentioned, but the guilty plea was on May 16, 2018]. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Louisiana Attorney General’s Louisiana Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crime Unit conducted the investigation.
