A federal court in Sioux City, Iowa, witnessed a significant breakthrough in the ongoing battle against methamphetamine trafficking when Paul Diamond Sanchez, a 52-year-old resident of Carroll, Iowa, pleaded guilty to two serious charges.
Sanchez was accused of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The guilty plea was made on November 20, 2025, at a federal court in Sioux City.
According to court documents, Sanchez admitted to being involved in the distribution of methamphetamine in the Carroll, Iowa area from July 2024 through May 2025. During this period, he and his associates allegedly distributed substantial quantities of the illicit substance.
On two specific occasions in the summer of 2024, Sanchez was involved in the distribution of over 25 grams of pure methamphetamine to an individual cooperating with law enforcement. Furthermore, during a traffic stop in October 2024, Sanchez was found to be in possession of over 9 grams of pure methamphetamine, which he confessed he intended to sell to another person.
The sentencing of Sanchez will be scheduled after a presentence report has been prepared. He is currently being held in the custody of the United States Marshal pending the outcome of the sentencing process.
The charges against Sanchez carry severe penalties. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 40 years’ imprisonment. Additionally, he may be required to pay a fine of up to $5,000,000 and serve at least four years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
The case against Sanchez is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Manning Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Iowa DCI Laboratory.
