Ken Paxton, Plat Application Rejection, Texas 2024

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has come down hard on the proposed EPIC City development in Collin County, ordering local officials to reject any plat applications submitted by developers behind the East Plano Islamic Center project.

In a stern letter sent to the Collin County Commissioners Court, Paxton urged the rejection of both the EPIC City and ‘The Meadow Phase 1’ developments. The directive follows Paxton’s lawsuit against Double R Municipal Utility District No. 2A for what he deems an illegal annexation to facilitate the EPIC City project.

Paxton’s letter highlights the Commissioners Court’s previous refusal to approve EPIC City’s platting application due to its numerous deficiencies, including violations of securities laws. ‘From beginning to end, the East Plano Islamic Center development has been an illegal scheme designed to circumvent state law and destroy beautiful Texas land,’ Paxton stated. ‘We must protect Texans from illegal schemes, and that’s why I’m advising the Commissioners Court to refrain from approving any new development and platting applications by the EPIC City developers.’

The legal challenges surrounding EPIC City have been a matter of public concern, with Paxton noting that the developers’ actions appeared to be aimed solely at evading state regulatory oversight. The Attorney General’s office has made it clear that they will not tolerate such maneuvers.
