Defendant Sentenced to 30 Months for Repeatedly Illegally Reentering the Country
Orlando, Florida – U.S. District Judge Gregory A. Presnell has handed down a 30-month prison sentence to Pedro Lucas-Cruz, a 31-year-old Mexican national, for illegally reentering the United States after being previously deported.
According to court documents, Lucas-Cruz had a history of run-ins with the law. On February 12, 2015, he was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and felony battery. He was subsequently deported and removed from the United States on September 21, 2017.
However, Lucas-Cruz did not stay out of the country for long. He reentered the United States and was found guilty of illegal reentry by a deported alien on March 11, 2021. Despite this conviction, he was again deported and removed from the country on February 4, 2022.
But Lucas-Cruz made the mistake of reentering the United States once more. He was found in the Middle District of Florida on January 6, 2025. It was at this point that he was taken into custody and charged with illegal reentry by a deported alien.
Lucas-Cruz pled guilty to the offense on June 30, 2025. He was subsequently sentenced to 30 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Gregory A. Presnell.
The case was investigated by the Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick M. Flanigan.
Lucas-Cruz’s repeated attempts to reenter the country have resulted in a significant prison sentence. His case serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating immigration laws.
