Christopher Michael Stanton Jr., a 29-year-old Pensacola native, was handed a 97-month federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to possessing illegal narcotics and a firearm in a residence filled with young children. The sentencing was announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
On August 7, 2024, law enforcement conducted a search warrant at Stanton’s West Baars Street home, where they discovered marijuana, cocaine, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia. The residence was also occupied by three young children, all under the age of 10.
John P. Heekin emphasized the inexcusable nature of the defendant’s actions, stating that his office is dedicated to community safety, which includes keeping illegal drugs off the streets and firearms out of the hands of convicted felons.
The investigation into Stanton was a collaborative effort between the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Task Force (HIDTA). Assistant United States Attorney Jessica S. Etherton prosecuted the case as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
Operation Take Back America is a joint effort between OCDETFs and Project Safe Neighborhood, streamlining resources to combat violent crime and illegal immigration. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida is one of 94 offices responsible for litigating cases under the direction of the Attorney General.
