GRIMY TIMES – In a tough blow against gun violence, Carlton Bruce Cooke, 40, of Pensacola, Florida, was sentenced to 54 months in federal prison for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The sentence, announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, sends a clear message that repeat felons will face the full force of the law.
Heekin stated, ‘Our office is committed to ensuring our community’s most violent offenders are confronted with the full force of the law. This repeat felon not only unlawfully possessed a firearm but also used it to threaten others.’ The case underscores Operation Take Back America’s pledge to protect communities from those who endanger them.
On July 10, 2024, the defendant threatened his roommates with a firearm, firing a round into the ground. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed two loaded handguns and ammunition. Cooke has prior convictions for multiple firearms offenses.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer H. Callahan prosecuted the case. This sentencing is part of Operation Take Back America, which aims to combat illegal immigration, eliminate cartels, and protect communities from violent crime.
