PENSACOLA, FLORIDA – Awa1d Edward Pokrant Jr., a 50-year-old resident of Pensacola, has been handed down an 86-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to federal firearms charges. The announcement was made by Christopher P. Canova, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
The charges stemmed from an October 2016 incident where Pokrant fled the scene of an armed disturbance. After a high-speed chase, law enforcement officers apprehended him and found blood splatter and evidence of a hammer attack on a victim at the scene. An investigation led to the discovery of firearms and ammunition in the house and more weapons at a friend’s residence.
Pokrant was sentenced for unlawfully possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and possessing an unregistered firearm. The ATF Gun Crime Response Team, along with other law enforcement agencies including the FBI and local sheriff’s offices, conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney James M. Ustynoski prosecuted the case.
