PENSACOLA, FL — A Pensacola resident finds himself in a tight spot after being indicted by the feds for serious firearm offenses. Joshua Dean Hardy, 26, is accused of harboring two unregistered silencers and a destructive device, along with an unmarked firearm.
The feds claim Hardy’s cache was obtained in violation of the National Firearms Act (NFA), while the serial number on his weapon had been deliberately erased. United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, John P. Heekin, laid out the charges against Hardy.
Hardy is set to face arraignment before Judge Hope T. Cannon in Pensacola on August 28, 2025. If convicted, he could be looking at up to 10 years for each NFA violation and an additional five years for the obliterated serial number charge.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer H. Callahan is handling the prosecution.
Despite the charges being merely an accusation at this stage, Hardy remains presumed innocent until proven guilty. His case is part of Operation Take Back America, a DOJ initiative aimed at dismantling criminal organizations and protecting communities from violent crime.
The Northern District of Florida’s U.S. Attorney’s Office is one of 94 offices responsible for the nation’s principal litigation efforts.
